Why I love this Hot Dog Pasta Recipe
Macarrão com salsicha/hot dog pasta, was the ultimate food highlight of my childhood, and it’s just so good that it couldn’t stop existing in my adult life.
When I was growing up, my mom wouldn’t make this dish super often for us, because she didn’t want us eating hot dog dinners every day. But, when she did make it, oh my word! It was like a kid’s version of winning the lottery ahah! This was her go-to dish for our kid-related special activities like sleepovers, study groups, and even small birthdays. It’s a perfect, fast and cheap way to feed a bunch of kids. And we always loved it!!
And what’t not to love? This quick and easy hot dog recipe is creamy, full of hot dogs, olives and other yums, but the fact that you can be eating it in 20 minutes from start to finish makes it even better. This is one of my “I’m too lazy to do anything” recipes, and I bet you’ll love this hot dog recipe as much as I do.
Seriously, you guys, if hot dog pasta is wrong, then I really never want to be right. Are you with me?
Bom Apetite!
Beijinhos xx

What you’ll need to make this Hot Dog Pasta Recipe
Another thing to love about this homemade hot dog recipe, is that it uses nothing but easy to find, everyday ingredients and an instant pot/pressure cooker.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Hot dogs
- Butter
- Onion
- Garlic (or Brazilian sofrito, of course!)
- Short pasta – I used rotelle, but any short pasta works. You can use anything like Penne, Cavatappi, Fiorelli, Chiocciole, Macaroni, Farfalle, Fusili to name a few.
- Marinara sauce – store bought is fine *in my best Ina Garten voice* haha 🙂 Just note that, some brands of marinara may be thicker than others, and if that’s the case, you may need to add a bit more water to the IP to avoid the burning warning.
- Heavy cream
- Olives
- Parsley
- Parmesan cheese – the parmesan cheese is totally optional, but topping off your macaroni and hot dogs with with some cheese will really complete the dish! You can even transfer the finished dish straight out of the instant pot to a oven safe dish, add other cheeses, then broil it for a minute or two until the cheese bubbles. Now you got yourself a hot dog casserole!
Here’s how to Make this hot dog dinner recipe
With your IP in saute mode, saute the onion and garlic in the butter.
Turn off the pot, then, add the hot dogs, the pasta, the olives, and the marinara sauce to the pan.
Then, I use the water to shake off any leftover marinara from the jar, and pour it in as well along with the cream. Give everything a nice stir and make sure that most of everything is submerged in liquid, like in the image below. Close the pot and turn on manual mode for 6 minutes.
After 6 minutes, release the pressure manually, and carefully open the pan. Add the parsley, give it another big stir and your hot dog pasta should be all ready and looking like this!
Just top it off with more parsley if you want and some parmesan cheese. That’s it, dinner is officially ready!

If there is one way to get my kids to eat all of the pasta, its to put hotdogs in it! They love this, and it even works great cold the next day for school lunches!
Awesome!!! haha Great to know! I never tried it cold, but sounds like a great idea!!
This is a great way to upgrade those boring hot dogs! Kid and adult approved.

Two pounds of hot dogs? 32 total oz? Just double checking if I’m reading that right! Sounds amazing, I’m excited to try it this week 😀
Haha! Correct, Krista – 32 ounces (or two 16oz packages 🙂 ). You’ll love it!!
Such a yummy recipe! Unfortunately, I have tried this twice and it seems that my instant pot will not seal. I thought there was something wrong with my pot the first time this happened, but I have cooked many things since and it works fine. Just made this again and it never sealed. I just cook it longer til the pasta is done.
Hi Deanna! Glad you like the recipe – that’s so strange about the seal in your IP, but I’m glad you came up with a safe way to make it work!
Sounds great I’m new on making pasta meals so please send some more
haha will do!
OMGosh. This was fantastic! I gotta be honest – when I stumbled across this recipe, I wasn’t quite sure with the combination of ingredients – hot dogs/olives/marinara/cream. WOW! I sure am glad I tried this. My family inhaled the meal. DEFINITELY a keeper!!!
haha!!! I know!! Isn’t it weird? lol I almost never published this recipe because I thought people might think it’s too weird lol BUT it is a classic childhood dish where I come from, and loads of people asked for it ahaha I love it so much and I’m so happy your family enjoyed it, too!!
I just made this tonight. Vegan style with bell pepper sauce since we can’t have tomatoes. My family never knew it was vegan. Lol 😊😏
Ahaha!! That’s awesome!!
